I like looking up, discovering eagles’ nests wedged between branches. They’re huge, four to five feet in diameter, two to four feet deep.

“Grass, feathers, and twigs,” says Leo, “make for a soft center.”

The ridge above us is heavy, dense with trees. There’re at least three nests. I imagine climbing towering trees, spying on eggs and eaglets.

“Let’s draw here.” Me and Leo share a box of colored pencils. I like how we both draw the same area, then compare. “Later, we’ll make a definitive set, Addy. We can mail back and forth.”
